S.OLIVER GROUP extends membership in the International Accord

The S.OLIVER GROUP has signed the newly negotiated agreement of the International Accord to promote the health and safety of workers in the textile industry.

The S.OLIVER GROUP signed the newly renegotiated agreement of the International Accord for the promotion of health and safety of workers in the textile industry in Bangladesh and Pakistan in December 2023. This continues the successful work of previous years.

What is the International Accord?

The International Accord was established in 2013 in response to the collapse of the Rana Plaza factory in Bangladesh. Its mission is to enhance the safety of workers in textile factories. The organization brings together unions and international brands to conduct safety inspections collaboratively and eliminate risks.

In which countries is the International Accord active?

Since 2013, the organization has been active in Bangladesh, where it has gained more than 150 international textile brands as members. Additionally, in 2023, the Accord expanded its reach to Pakistan. As the S.OLIVER GROUP, we are an active member in both countries.

What exactly are we doing with the International Accord?

The core approach of the International Accord is that safe working conditions cannot be created without the participation of workers. That’s why unions, brands and factories are working together on the following measures, among others:

  • Regular training and education in the factories to create a new awareness of workplace safety and possible safety risks

  • Regular inspections of electronics, machines and buildings to identify and eliminate risks

  • Point of contact for workers who have safety concerns about their workplace

Does this truly improve workplace safety?

While there is still much work to be done to sustainably enhance working conditions, the efforts of the International Accord since 2013 have had an impact. Over the past years, thousands of inspections have taken place, leading to the identification and resolution of safety deficiencies. Hence, it is crucial for us at S.OLIVER GROUP to continue this collaborative work in the years ahead!
